Training on Techniques in Environmental Microbiology on 20th January 2020: Techniques in Environmental Microbiology (TEM)

 

The Environmental Biological Laboratory (EBL, NABL accredited) of the Environment & Sustainability (E&S) Department conducted a skill development programme on “Techniques in Environmental Microbiology (TEM)” during 20th-23rd January 2020. A total of 21 trainees pursuing a Ph.D., M.Sc, B.tech, and B.Pharm courses in biological sciences from different Universities across the state of Odisha and Madhya Pradesh participated in the program. The training was imparted in media preparation, sterilization, serial dilution, inoculations, culture plating methods, enumeration, staining and biochemical characterization of microorganisms, and antimicrobial activity testing. The training also had included molecular biology techniques such as genomic DNA isolation, thermal cycling via PCR, agarose and polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, gel purification, DNA characterization, etc. Besides, there was a demonstration session on the constructed wetland based wastewater treatment facility in CSIR-IMMT.
