Sir Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Memorial Lecture on Understanding And prediction of Weather And Climate Extremes: A problem in Basic Sciences on 21st February 2019

CSIR-IMMT organized "Sir Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Memorial Lecture" on 21st February 2019 to commemorate the 125th Birth Anniversary of Sir Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar, the Founder and the Founder Director General of the largest publicly funded organization of our country, CSIR. Prof. U.C. Mohanty, Visiting Professor, IIT Bhubaneswar delivered this year's memorial lecture on " Understanding and Prediction of Weather and Climate Extremes: A Problem in Basic Sciences". Prof. Mohanty, an eminent Atmospheric Scientist, explained that the understanding of weather and climate systems and their timely prediction is a challenging task before the scientific community. It requires comprehensive observations of the entire earth system and appropriate modeling. In his presentation, the fundamental principles of weather and climate process followed by its linkage to various basic sciences such as physical, chemical, mathematical, biological, geological, and environmental and computer sciences were illustrated
