Workshop cum training program on MINING AND INDUSTRIAL SOLID WASTES: AS RESOURCE IN MANUFACTURE OF BUILDING BRICKS 26th March 2018

 

One day workshop cum training program on Mining and industrial solid wastes: As resource in manufacture of building bricks was organized at CSIR-IMMT on 26th March 2018, in collaboration with Dept. of Science & Technology, New Delhi. Prof. Suddhasatwa Basu, Director, CSIR-IMMT welcomed the delegates and participants and drew the attention on the expertise and facilities available at CSIR-IMMT for value added application of industrial wastes. Sri Smruti Ranjan Pradhan, IAS, Director (MSME), Director of Industries Odisha, was the guest of Honour. He spoke about the policy of govt. and encouraged to facilitate such programs in near future for generating more revenue and employment in KBK districts. He also assured to take necessary steps for free supply of fly ash to MSME units. Dr. C. R. Panda, Chief Scientist & Head, Environment & Sustainability Dept., CSIR-IMMT, Bhubaneswar illustrated the activities and strength of CSIR-IMMT on sustainable utilization of mining and industrial solid wastes and their management practices. Dr S.D. Muduli, young Scientist, CSIR-IMMT,Bhubaneswar summarized the inclusive innovations of CSIR-IMMT in building material sector and proposed the vote of thanks.

Dr. D. K. Behera, Sr. Env. Scientist, State Pollution Control Board, ODISHA delivered the talk on sources of generation of solid wastes and their possible utilizations for value added application. Mr. A. K. Behera, Vice President, IMFA, Choudwar delivered the talk on process details on manufacture of fly ash building bricks. He also spoke about the benefits of mineral cementation process developed by CSIR-IMMT and how advantages of suitability of mineral cementation process in manufacture of building bricks.

About 100 delegates including experts, scientists, industry personnel, entrepreneurs, MSME officials, academicians and students from different corners of Odisha participated in the workshop. The workshop covered technical session followed by demonstration at pilot plant of fly ash demonstration area on manufacturing process details of fly ash building bricks along with other miming and industrial solid wastes as resource for building materials.
