Vigilance Awareness Week from 28th October to 2nd November, 2013


Like previous years, this year CSIR-IMMT also observed Vigilance Awareness Week from 28th October to 2nd November, 2013. Observance of the week began with display of prominently written banners at important locations in the Institute premises. Shri P.S.R. Reddy, Scientist-in-Charge of the Institute administered pledge to all the Staff-members on 28th October, 2013 at 11.00 A.M. On this occasion messages from the President, Vice President, Prime Minister and Central Vigilance Commissioner were also read out to the staff-members.

Various other programs were organized throughout the week. Shri P.K. Ray, Controller of Administration delivered a lecture on “Good Governance” on 28th October, 2013. The talk was very much informative and educational. In his talk he touched upon all corners of Good Governance & its benefit. He mentioned that without good governance, no amount of development schemes can bring in improvements in the quality of life of the citizens. Corruption should be eradicated through good governance.

Debate competitions among wards of staff-members, staff-members/fellows and Class-XI & XII students from different schools in Bhubaneswar were organized on 28th, 29th & 30th October respectively. The topic of the debate for the wards of the staff category was, “INDIAN EDUCATION SECTOR IS FREE FROM CORRUPTION”. The topic of the debate for Staff members/fellows was “INDIA’S STRUGGLE AGAINST CORRUPTION REQUIRES A STRONGER VIGILANCE SYSTEM”. Some of the speakers spoke in favour of the motion and some against.

The topic of the debate for the +2 students was “CORRUPTION IS SINGLE MOST CONSEQUENCE OF A POOR GOVERNANCE SYSTEM.” Most of the Class–XI and XII students from different schools and Jr. Colleges in Bhubaneswar participated in the competitions. Participation of the students in the competition was overwhelming. All the events were interesting and witnessed by staff members, teachers, students and their parents.

A series of talks on “Healthy Institutional Practices” were also arranged on 31st October, 2013 in which three senior CSIR-IMMT functionaries, namely, Dr. D.P. Sandha, Sr. T.O.(3) gave a talk on RTI related issues, Shri Duryodhan Sethi, F&AO gave a talk on financial management and Shri AK Dash Chaudhury, S&PO delivered a talk on public money and public procurement. Audience especially newly appointed staff gained a lot of knowledge through these talks.

Valedictory & Prize Distribution Function was organized on 1st November, 2013. Prof B.K. Mishra, Director, CSIR-IMMT, Bhubaneswar presided over the meeting and shared his views with the audience. Shri Manmohan Praharaj, IPS(Retd.) Chairman, OSSSC and former Director General, Police, Odisha attended the function as Chief Guest who gave a talk on “Anti-corruption issues” to sensitize the staff-members. The Chief Guest emphasized that public vigilance movement with higher moral & ethical standards are essential to fight against the menace. Dr. Srikanta Sharma, Chairman, Vigilance Awareness Committee and Mr. P.K. Ray, Controller of Administration also addressed the audience. Mr. Ray focused on “Promoting Good governance-Positive Contribution of Vigilance” which is the theme of this year’s Vigilance Awareness Week-2013. Prizes were distributed to the winners by the Chief Guest. The meeting ended with vote of thanks by Shri Ramakanta Dash, Section Officer-E.I.
